Mojo in a Marriage (aka Dressing Like Granny in the Bedroom)

Steven and I have been together for 11 years now, married for 10. We’ve got a pretty good marriage, I’d say, but we are pretty comfortable with each other at this point. My typical bedtime garb is pajama pants and a baggy (and usually ugly) T-shirt. Except when it’s winter and he insists on keeping the heat way down to save money, and I wear pajama pants, slipper socks, a T-shirt, and a long-sleeved T-shirt on top of that. Seriously, I look like Granny. Or maybe a college student at a 7:30 a.m. class.

At any rate, I don’t think I’ve purchased lingerie (other than bras and panties, if they count) since before we got married! I got some sexy little pieces from a lingerie party back then, plus I bought a few things for our honeymoon. All of them are nestled away in a lingerie drawer which rarely gets opened. Don’t get me wrong: we have a healthy marriage, if you get my drift. But I just don’t make the effort to dress sexily much anymore. It’s easy to forget that men are wired for sight, and even though I’ve already put the ring on his finger doesn’t mean that I can’t try to look good for him once and a while.

All of this was pretty much spurred by the movie The Ugly Truth, which I watched today. I guess it just hit home that though I know Steven loves me in my hair-up, make-up less, stinky state, he still wants to see me look pretty (or as close as I can get to it) sometimes. That said, I really hate how all movies show these heated sex scenes, but they’re never with married couples, like married people have lost their mojo or something!

So today I decided: 1) to buy some lingerie, and 2) to tell Hollywood – and anyone else who is listening – that married people can and do still have good love lives (even when one of them sleeps in slipper socks)!!
And hopefully the newly-acquired lingerie will boost the mojo even more!

hehe It’s so funny you wrote this today because just last week I decided I was DONE with the frumpiness and, for the first time since we were married (6.5yrs) bought something special from VS. I’m waiting on its arrival, hoping I don’t feel like too much of a fool!!! Oh, and back in the fall I realized I was tired of my usual bedtime garb (similar to yours!) and spent a small fortune on modest but attractive PJs at Kohls. Philip sees me mostly in my PJ’s b/c of his hours, so at least they’re stain and tear free (for now!).

I bought some of the Vera Wang line— about $40 for summer (it was still hot then) and $40 for winter (two pieces) but I figured it was worth it. I love the feel of the material and it’s SUPER comfy!!
