Looks very nice! (except for that strange stuff that looks like rainbow-colored bacon coated with crystallized sugar).

Being a bit of a musician, I picked out the small pink guitar in the corner of the room, and the Etude “music-themed” magazine covers on the walls.

The only problem with these kinds of celebrations though, is that everyone expects the next year to be even better! It reminds me of John 6, where Jesus had just fed the multitude the previous day, and now people were expecting great things:

    John 6
30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

In other words, “they got manna from heaven!” “You’ve got to do even better…what are you going to do this time?”

32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven.
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

They were disappointed, and were thinking, “Oh. You mean you’re the bread?!” They couldn’t identify with His divine character in it’s humiliation. Instead they wanted a king of pomp and glory. But God was giving them the best gift: His own Son.

So, I think the best gift you can give your children is yourself, and hopefully they will appreciate that gift, whether it comes with balloons and ribbons, or not.

This is great, Frank! It is a rat-race in the mom world nowadays – gotta outdo all the other crafty moms. I blame Pinterest. And yet, I also jumped into the race on this one. You are right. They don’t need the fluff. They need their mom. Thanks for the reminder!

By the way, those bacon rainbows are a soft gummy candy called Sour Patch Extremes. They are sour. And they are Extreme. And I had to go to 3 different stores to find them! (Finally found them at the gas station.) Oh, the sacrifices a mother makes . . . just kidding.

Ah yes, a ukelele…I should have noticed the four tuning pegs.

The decorations and food were really well done. I also liked that you included bowls of fruit. And your daughter’s tie-dye shirt was nice.

I just had my 3 children for two weeks, and the only special thing that I pre-prepared before they arrived was to make some healthy candy apples. I don’t have a pic, but I got the recipe from here, and the picture is about the same (http://www.theppk.com/2011/10/peanut-butter-caramel-apples/). Only I couldn’t figure out how to tie the ribbons!

I had planned many other things, but they required “all hands on deck.” It was a very busy two weeks. So I understand a bit about what mothers go through!
