Writing Updates and a Reading in Nashville!!

I’ve been quite busy this spring with the Novel Writing Workshop I’m taking through The Porch. I have LOVED this workshop, although I realize I have a lot of revising to do on my novel! The work is slow but coming along. My first two chapters have gone through several revisions based on our craft lessons and workshop feedback, and last night I submitted a section from later in the book. I’d written this section back in November and hadn’t had time to revise it at all, so I was super nervous because it was a section that tackled my character’s struggle between religions, and I wasn’t sure how that would be received. The workshop seemed to like it, though, and gave me some great critical feedback!

I had two poems published in February. “A Mother Brushes Her Daughter’s Hair” came out in Blue Heron Review. You can read it here. Scroll down and look for my name. This poem is one of several poems on mothering I’ve written lately.

The second poem is titled “Shackleton’s Hut,” and was published in Hawai’i Pacific Review. Read it here. This poem came from my minor obsession with Antarctica and is about Ernest Shackleton, an Antarctic explorer from the early 1900s.

Lastly, I have a reading set up in Nashville in April!! The university I graduated from, Trevecca Nazarene University, has invited me to participate in their Author Talk on the Hill series. On Tuesday, April 12, I’ll be giving a reading and short talk at 6pm at Trevecca in the Waggoner Library. If you’re local, I’d love to see you there! I’ll have books for sale, and if you already bought my book, I’d love to sign it! Here are the details:
